Foster Home Program

Fostering a dog isn't a lifetime commitment.....
                                           It's a commitment to save a Life.....

Our Foster Home Program is designed to provide loving and supportive homes for dogs in need.  We operate purely on a foster home basis, so our organization does not have a shelter, therefore, animals do not experience shelter life.  They are place into a suitable home environment, where they will receive everything they need until they are adopted by their forever family.

Most of our dogs come from the local pound, or situations that have unknown histories.  We do our best to gather as much information we can, and to test the dogs with other animals or other people if possible.  This is how we determine what type of foster home they should join such as homes with or without cats, other dogs or kids.  Some of our foster animals require a more specific type of foster home based on their temperament or needs.
We encourage our foster homes to be open minded and patient with any new dog that enters their home, as joining a new home and being in a new environment can be stressful for any animal.
When a new dog joins your home, we will provide everything that is needed.  Supplies such as kennels, bedding, food, toys and more will be sent along in order to provide as much comfort as possible for your foster.  All animals are checked by a vet and will receive vaccinations, medications, and be spayed or neutered. Occasionally we will require the foster home to take their foster pet to the vet if we aren't able to arrange all of the vetting prior to them coming into rescue. The foster home then lets them settle in and get to know their new home!  This can take time, but most will begin to get comfortable and their personalities will come out.

Being in a foster home gives our adoptables the opportunity to experience new and wonderful things.  They can learn to socialize with new people, and make new friends with other pets in the home.  Learning basic manners and skills like walking nicely on a leash, learning to sit and some even learn tricks!  Our foster homes are expected to help work with their foster dog to help set them up for success.  We provide assistance and support with basic training and other needs that may come up.  Our foster homes are vital in helping to determine the dogs character, abilities, and nature of their personality.  This is how we choose the most suitable home for our rescues, which helps ensure a successful adoption.  We want this to be a rewarding experience for both our foster homes and our animals.

Fostering is for anyone who is an animal lover, or who wants to make a difference in the animal world.  Our volunteers are special in the way they put a dogs needs ahead of their own, and continue to do so.  The process can be challenging,  and emotional at times when they go off to a new home.  Although, the reward of saving a life makes all the difference.  The more foster homes we have, the more lives we are able to save!

"I started fostering when I saw a post for an urgent need for one specific dog.  He had been through a few homes and was needing a new foster home or he would be stuck in boarding.  I thought, well I have this big back yard and a big house and it's only me and my cat! So I contacted the rescue and signed on.  I admit I was overwhelmed at first, he was a bouncy boy and loved to eat all my socks!  In time he became comfortable and I learned more about him.  I got to see him evolve into a wonderful boy, and after 6 months in foster he found the PERFECT home with a dog just like him.  I cried when he went off, but I knew it was meant to be.  We have been fostering now since 2017 and it has been the most rewarding experience.  There have been many different personalities enter our home, some more challenging than others, but it has taught us a lot.  And if it wasn't for Funds for Furry Friends I wouldn't have adopted Terry, who was in a foster home of his own when I started. It is truly the best feeling knowing you have the ability to save so many lives."
