Our Adoption Process

Step One:  Visit the animal profiles for our available dogs and cats and read the descriptions carefully. Once you have decided which furry friend you would like to add to your family, complete our online Adoption Application Form.  We will review your Adoption Application and conduct reference checks.
(vet reference, two personal references whom you have known for a minimum of 2 years,
and landlord permission when applicable).

Step Two:  Once you’ve been pre-screened, we will contact you to give the contact information of the foster home caring for the dog or cat you are applying for.  At this time, we may ask you a few questions about the dog or cat you've chosen, if there are any specific requirements for them as outlined in their profile.  This is a great time to ask us any questions you may have!   Once you have been supplied with the foster home's contact information, you can call them to arrange a visit with their foster dog or cat at an agreed upon time suitable for both of you.  Please ask the foster parent anything about their foster....they know them best!

Step Three:  Visit with the furry friend you have applied for!  We feel it is very important to meet the dog or cat prior to finalizing the adoption.  Once you have completed your visit, you will leave the foster home without the dog or cat.  We want you to go home and talk with other members of the household, if any, and truly decide that you are able to provide the dog or cat with a forever home!

Step Four: When everyone feels good about the adoption, we make it happen! A volunteer with the rescue will call you and conduct a final interview.  We will go over any important items concerning the dog or cat you have applied for, which may include any breed specifics, behaviours, medical concerns, etc. as well as discuss the terms of adopting through Funds for Furry Friends as outlined in our Adoption Contract. We will also go over tips to help have a successful introduction of your new furry family member to your home!  In order to finalize the adoption of the  dog or cat, we will require the adopter to fill out an Adoption Contract (form can be downloaded on our Adoption Application Form page or ask to have one emailed to you)  as well as pay the adoption fee.  Upon approval, you can then make arrangements to pick up the dog or cat with their foster home.

Funds for Furry Friends adopts our animals to homes that are the best match and that best meet the animal's needs. We keep in contact with our foster homes to learn as much as we can about the animal and to get updates on their progress. As a result, we can hopefully find the best possible match for you, as well as for our adoptable!
If your application does not meet our adoptive home criteria, we have the right to decline your application.
