This sweet ol' girl is a dog we never expected to wind up in rescue. With Wednesday appearing to be very well fed and being that she is an older dog - we really did believe she had some people out there really worried about her. Wednesday spent a few weeks in the pound and nobody came. We have since taken this wonderful girl into rescue, and Wednesday is now looking for a foster home - or better yet, a forever home! Wednesday is a very nice, laid back dog. She seems to be very content most of the time. She is quiet and quite easy going - and very, very sweet! Wednesday is fully housebroken, and she seems to be uninterested in the other dogs and cats for the most part - but she does adore the other dog in her foster home, and they are quite good pals! Wednesday is a Labrador Retriever and she will do a happy dance and even bounce around a little when she gets excited... There is still some spunk in the old girl! All in all, this gal is quite low key and she is looking for a home that goes her speed. Wednesday is a good dog with a very sweet and loving nature. She adores everyone and would easily fit into any environment! (Indoor Home Only!)
UPDATE: We had Wednesday in for a spay, and her experiences should speak to all of those who feel it is unnecessary to spay a dog. Wednesday has mammary tumors as a direct result of remaining intact for ten years of her life. This awful experience could have been avoided if her owners had just gone forward with a spay when she was young. It is a fact that one in four intact female dogs will develop mammary tumors. Mammary tumors are benign in 50% of the dogs that develop them, and fortunately nothing in Wednesday's bloodwork raised any concerns. Her tumors appear to be localized and are not spreading. The long term outlook for Wednesday is good - her tumors will be removed after she has had a chance to recover fully from her spay. Wednesday's bloodwork was very good and the veterinary clinic feels she is in good shape. Sadly, there is always a small risk of the tumors developing again in the future - and this is something we do wish to ensure future adopters are aware of. Everyone who has met Wednesday has commented on how gentle, sweet and loving she is - she really deserves a chance.
UPDATE: Wednesday has gone for tumor removal. We have removed all of the mammary tumors on one side of her body, but there are a few strays on the other side. They vets felt it best we give her a month to heal before removing the rest - so she is going to have the rest removed in early February. We had Wednesday x-rayed to ensure there was no tumor development elsewhere, and her x-rays were good. This sweet old girl really is an amazing dog with a simply outstanding personality - we are so honored to be a part of giving her a second chance.
UPDATE: Wednesday's final tumor removal is scheduled for Friday, March 13th, 2009. After this surgery is complete she will be all clear and ready for her new forever home!
