ROAM - the Rural Outreach Across
Manitoba - is a program designed to assist with the
rescue of animals from surrounding rural communities
that do not have their own rescue facilities. Brandon
is situated in the center of many smaller rural centers,
and 40-45% of the dogs that come through our rescue
each year come from rural communities. The funds raised
through our ROAM program are designed to assist with
the costs associated with the intake and placement of
our rural rescues - anywhere they may roam!
While larger centers have their
own impound facilities, many rural communities look
to veterinary clinics, animal-related businesses and
even local farms to hold animals found running at large.
If the owners do not approach the rural municipality
or town office and reclaim the animals, the individuals
caring for them are responsible for finding placement
for the animals. In cases where new homes can not be
found, the care givers often seek assistance from rescues
in surrounding communities to help with placement of
the animals in need. As with any impound facility, the
care of the animals is only funded for a limited time.
Funds raised through the ROAM
program are designed to cover the costs of emergency
boarding spaces so the rescue can take these animals
in with the urgency required, and then seek loving foster
homes through our foster care program. In addition,
dogs brought into rescue throught the ROAM program sometimes
need transportation to safety. We have created a fund
dedicated to helping these dogs.

Brandon Area Community Foundation was able to help our
with the Rural Outreach Across Manitoba by making a
contribution to this fund. A grant provided to the rescue
a great resource that will ultimately assist with the
rescue and care of many animals in our surrounding areas,
that would not otherwise have a chance... click
