Prairie Blend Mother's Day Concert
Last Updated:

Those who ask what difference
does it make saving just one have not witnessed the joy of
the one who is saved!
Prairie Blend is a men's choir of about 18 voices from all walks of life and all
ages. Some are local professionals (teachers, professors, an engineer two ministers
and a veterinarian) and two from the Music School. Prairie Blend has performed
often in Brandon and the surrounding communities (including two performances in
Winnipeg) and has a CD out. The choir is conducted by Deanna Ginn who has a
cute little rescue living with her from Furry Friends. It has been a tradition for
Prairie Blend to have a concert on Mother's Day in Brandon and this year is special.
Members of the choir were very impressed by Shahna Rice's work with Furry Friends
and with her passing they wanted to put on a concert in her memory. The concert this
Mother's Day is a tribute to Shahna and the admission is by donation to either
Furry Friends or to the Cancer Society at the choice of the concert goer. The music
will be a mixture of folk songs, traditional drinking songs, a madrigal etc., in general
music from many generations (this is not barbershop singing). There is also a locally
composed piece that is dedicated to Shahna and that is one of
only two pieces that are more somber in tone. Shahna would enjoy the light hearted
tone of the concert in her honour.
