Brandon Area Community Foundation Assists with Rural Initiative
Last Updated:
November 14th, 2008
Those who ask what difference
does it make saving just one have not witnessed the joy of
the one who is saved!
The
Brandon Area Community Foundation
has been a major contributor of Funds for Furry Friends and
2008 was no exception. The rescue was awarded a grant in the
amount of $1,800.00 to assist with their Rural Outreach Across
Manitoba (aka ROAM program.)
Brandon is surrounded by
rural communities, and despite having a base in Brandon -
Funds for Furry Friends has a volunteer base which extends
across Southwestern Manitoba. With heavy connections in the
surrounding rural areas, Funds for Furry Friends has become
a resource to the surrounding area impounds (as well as vet
clinics and other facilities acting as impounds) in the surrounding
areas.
Options for any animal
at the pound are limited - but those limitations are even
greater where impounded animals in rural locations are concerned.
There is a smaller base of adopters for these animals, and
there are fewer resources when the animals are located far
from a major center. With connections in many of these centers,
around 40-45% of the animals coming through the rescue arrive
to us from rural centers.
Many cases are urgent and
because the animals are on borrowed time, funding is needed
to cover the costs to bring them to safety and to assist with
temporary boarding while the animals await placement within
the foster care system. Funds for Furry Friends strives to
place animals in foster homes as quickly as possible, but
at times the rescue's volunteer foster homes are full and
we just don't want to have to turn a nice animal away...
Brandon
Area Community Foundation's contribution to this initiative
is going to really increase opportunities for rural animals,
and the rescue is very excited about the opportunity to open
doors to more animals that need help. Funds for Furry Friends
would like to extend a great big thank-you to the Brandon
Area Community Foundation for their aid and assistance. The
foundation has been simply wonderful to the rescue and the
grant awarded to the rescue on November 13th, 2008 will truly
make it possible for more animals to get a second chance.
Brandon Area Community
Foundation is a local organization created by and for the
people of Brandon and Southwestern Manitoba. The organization
is dedicated to helping make an ongoing difference in their
community, and they have been able to assist our rescue in
making a difference by helping some of the smallest members
of the community in a very big way! Please take some time
to visit
their website - this organization is a blessing to so
many charities in Brandon and Area.
