Height: 19-20" | Weight: 45lbs

Darby has been in rescue for quite some time, and this fella really needs someone willing to give him a chance. This fellow had a rough break, and was picking up by animal control in a small town outside of Brandon, and he was brought to the vet clinic to be euthanized. However, this very sweet fellow made a real impression on the vet clinic staff - and we were contacted and asked to take him in. Darby came into rescue mid-summer of 2008, and he is still waiting for his forever family to come for him.

Darby is a very special dog. He is an extremely gentle and sweet fellow, who just needs a little patience and understanding. Strangers make him nervous and Darby is quick to shy away from new people. I'll let you in on a little secret - the key to making friends with Darby are a few kind words and a couple cookies! Once Darby realizes you are safe - he wants nothing more than to be your very best friend! Darby is a very loyal and loving dog, who bonds quickly and closely with his humans.

Darby is completely housebroken and kennel trained. He walks well on leash and is very well mannered in the house. He's generally a laid back, easy-going fellow. Darby was questionable with cats upon arrival, but after spending time in a foster home with five very dog savvy cats, he has lost all interest in cats. He was introduced to three different cats at the boarding kennel and he now completely ignores them. Darby is good with most other dogs - he has a preference for females and while he is good with most males, he is wary of dominant male dogs and would not be good in a home with a bossy male.

Because Darby is a timid dog, he gets nervous around kids, and he would be best suited to a home without children under twelve. Darby is extremely shy with new people and around strangers, but with his people - he is a fun-loving and friendly fellow. Darby will be a very loyal and loving companion for someone who has just a little time and patience to get to know him. Darby has been living as an inside dog and he is extremely well mannered in the house. We would consider an outside home for Darby, as long as there was adequate shelter providede for him - but he will need to bond with his new family before he would be trustworthy to let loose! Darby loves to play outside and he came into rescue from an outside situation. (Indoor Home or Outdoor Home Considered!)
