Description Last Updated: October 3rd, 2010
Those who ask what difference does it make saving just one have not witnessed the joy of the one who is saved!

Australian Cattle Dog/Chow/Lab Blend - Neutered Male - 11 months old (Born November 13th, 2009)
Height: 14-15" | Weight: 28lbs (approx.)

Charm is a very sweet young fellow who is looking for a very special forever home. This young boy is one of five surviving puppies of an unplanned litter born and living outdoors in these recent freezing temperatures. Charm came into rescue at 5 weeks old! He is full grown now, at 11 months old, and is only a medium sized dog. Charm is an excellent little dog who has wonderful manners and a great personality. He has been raised in a foster home with other animals, and would do well in a multi-pet home. Charm will follow the lead of the other dogs he is around and adapts easily with other animals. He is a sensitive dog who will respect the space of an older dog, but is also willing and eager to play with a younger one. Charm has great manners - his foster mom has taught him to sit and stay when his food is being served and he has really caught on to this game! Charm knows how to sit and comes when called. His recall is excellent, as he is a timid boy, and he prefers to be with someone he knows. Charm is a smart little boy and he takes direction very well. He is a very soft boy and takes correction quite seriously - and it does hurt his feelings! Charm is a gentle guy who can be a little timid in new situations. He will need a loving family that is patient and willing to earn his trust, as he is extremely loyal to his people. While Charm is shy, he does trust his people when they tell him "it's okay." Charm is completely crate trained and his housebreaking is almost perfect. He asks to go out, so he does need reminders from his people. Charm is an excellent mix of playful and easy-going. He has a great off switch and is happy to chill out with his people, but he also has a side that likes to wrestle and play with the other dogs. Charm really is a sweet little "prince charming" - but as a plain black dog, he has been overlooked. We have just taken some new autumn pictures in the leaves, hoping the fall colors will make him "pop" a little more on the website. Charm is a very loving dog would would be a great addition to any home. He will need someone who is patient and can give him time to settle in, as he has been in rescue since he was wee pup and will need a little time to adjust. (Indoor Home Only!)

Temporarily Unavailable for Adoption
UPDATE:
Charm left rescue April 2, 2011 on TRIAL in a potential adoptive home. They day he left rescue, the individual attempting to adopt him decided to try running him off leash outside of Brandon. As per the above description, Charm is a timid boy with a soft disposition, and that he needed time to adjust. It was very specifically stressed that he was NOT to be allowed off leash and extra care and caution would be required as he took time to settled in.

The rescue was NOT INFORMED of Charm's disappearance, despite the short time he was adopted and opportunity to contact individuals within the rescue to assist. We were informed of the disappearance by a couple different people contacting us after discussions with this potential adoptive home.

After confirming that Charm had been missing since the day he left - and learning we were uninformed because "what could we do about it anyway?" We showed just what we CAN do!!! Beginning on Day 6 (April 7, 2011) following confirmation Charm was lost the rescue utilized every online classifieds lists, contacted police, RCMP, Town and RM offices, pounds, vet clinics and animal control. Advertisements were put on the radio and flyers were printed off and dropped off in every rural maibox between here and about 7 miles South of Brandon. We had about 20 volunteers who came out to help get the word out and search for Charm - not to mention all the help and sightings reported because of things reposted on facebook. After two days searching from sunrise to sunset, following leads - we finally found Charm. He was "captured" when he entered a barn on a farmyard in search of food and shelter.

Charm is quite malnourished after EIGHT days without food, this city dog managed to survive out in the middle of no where. After being seen by a vet, we have learned that other than needing puppy food to get his weight back up - Charm is doing well physically. He is very happy to be back, but we do feel the situation has had quite an impact on him. Every sighting reported him running like crazy, looking for something or someone.

As a result of this situation, we are temporarily holding Charm back from adoption to give him a chance to recover, put on weight and get lots of snuggles from everyone who has been worried sick since we learned of his disappearance.
