Cassanova is a sweet young fellow that came into rescue after a spending some time at the Brandon City Pound.  This fellow has an outstanding personality and he charms everyone who meets him. Cassanova is great with all people, big and small. He is currently in a foster home with two young boys, and he is extremely gentle and loving with kids. Cassanova has a calming effect on most dogs, he is very good with the other dogs in his foster home. This big fella is even gentle with the chihuahua in his foster home! Cassanova likes a calm household, and he makes it his job to ensure that everything is in order. He will not allow other dogs to play to rough, and steps in using his big chest to push others apart when there is a dispute. Cassanova is very sure of himself and other dogs seem to respond extremely well to him. This big boy is very laid back and easy going, spending a lot of time just hanging out where the people are. His beautiful, gentle nature just melts the hearts of everyone who meets him. Cassanova would never hurt a cat, but most felines find him extremely annoying. He will poke at the and does not get turned off when they get angry - just continuing on poking them. Casanova is good loose in the house which is important because he does not like to be crated. He also does not like to be alone, but does fine as long as he has the company of another dog. While Nova is fairly lazy and quiet, he will play if a human or other dog engages him. He will chase a ball or gently wrestle with another dog. He is listed on his vet work as a duck tolling retriever, coat is lighter and a little shorter than a tranditional duck toller – he is a dead on match for the personality!  Cassanova is outgoing and intelligent. He really enjoys being with people and he is easy to have around, with his laid back nature.

So, why is Cassanova still in rescue? Unfortunately, this fellow has had some complications which have been diagnosed since his arrival in rescue. We have learned Cassanova has hypothyroidism, and as a result he is extremely overweight. He has been on medication for a short time, and is getting regular walks and exercise to get his weight down. Cassanova does have a difficult time getting up when he is laying down - and we have been assured this is a direct result of the extra weight he is carrying. We have been giving Nova glucosamine suppliments to help his joints cope with the extra weight. The medication for his thyroid and the glucosamine suppliments are not very expensive at all. He does have another condition, which may be a result of his thyroid problems - but it may not be, and we are currently treating him for both. Cassanova also has a condition known as cushings syndrome, which is a hormone disorder that causes his adrenal glands secrete an excess amount of cortisone. This is controlled with medication, and this medication is a little more costly (around $80 per month). Click here to read more about hypothyroidism and cushings disease.

Cassanova is a young dog with an outstanding personality. He loves everyone he meets and gets along really well with other dogs. Cassanova is extremely charming and he would make a wonderful companion for anyone that wants a friend for life. This big boy is quite a catch, and he is looking for a family willing to see past these medical concerns - because beyond these things is a dog that anyone would be truly blessed to own!
