Hendryx - Border Collie X Jack Russell Terrier (Spayed)
Needs a Foster Home!

Hendryx is a very sweet 7 year old Border Collie X Jack Russell Terrier. Hendryx was owner surrendered to the rescue when her owner's child developed allergies to her. This beautiful girl looks like a fox and is only about 30-35lbs. Although we are told she is a Border Collie X Jack Russell Terrier, we can not help but wonder if there is something else in there which gives her this remarkable coloring. Hendryx is only medium-sized and she is a very gentle girl. She does seem to be a little fearful of new people, and does best if allowed a little time to come to you. We are told Hendryx was housebroken, but her housetraining has been slipping as of late. This may have been because she was living with an unaltered male dog. Hendryx likes other dogs, and she does like cats - but wants to play with them. She would be best with a very laid back cat if she was to find a home with cats. Hendryx is good with older children, but tends to find the activity of smaller children stressful - so she will need a home with kids over the age of 12 years. Hendryx is crate trained and views her crate as her safe place. She does bond quickly with people, and is a great alert barker when stranger approach - but otherwise seems to be quiet. Hendryx seems to enjoy walks and car rides - she does very well in the vehicle. This gal seems to be a little nervous and would do best in a quieter home. (Indoor Home or Indoor/Outdoor Home Acceptable)

Tito - Pug X Terrier - APPLICATION RECEIVED!
Fostered in Brandon

Tito is a friendly, happy little pug x terrier who has just come into rescue. Tito is a 5 year old male, and he is a solid fellow at about 25lbs. Tito is very friendly and social. He loves children, and gets along well with other animals. Tito has grown up around other dogs, and he ignores cats after a few initial sniffs. Tito is quite the marker outside but is completely housebroken and does not mark indoors. He will be neutered shorty. This little fella is very interested in the world around him and travels well in the car. Tito seems to have very good house manners and he has got to say hello to everyone he sees. All in all, this is one nice natured little dude. Tito is an outgoing guy who would fit in easily into any household. (Indoor Home Only!)

Pepita - Chihuahua
Fostered in Brandon

Pepita is momma to the babies shown below. She came into rescue after the puppy mill she was living in was shut down, and she has spent a little more time than anticipated in rescue because she was pregnant upon arrival. Pepita's pups are now ready for new homes and so is she! This beautiful brindle girl was probably the most friendly dog that came to our rescue from the mill right from the get-go. She bonded quickly and closely in her foster home and has turned out to be a very wonderful dog. Pepita is a single breed Chihuahua, but she is slightly oversized for a Chihuahua. This young mom is only about 2-3 years of age, and she has really come leaps and bounds in rescue. Pepita is friendly and sweet natured. She does take a short time to warm up to strangers - but is still on their laps in no time. Pepita is housebroken, and remained so even while she carried her litter of six! She has been in a foster home with cats and other dogs and seems to get along well with both species. This little lady has had a rough ride and she really is a very sweet little girl. Pepita's spay has been delayed as she has been nursing the pups just a little longer than necessary, and she will be scheduled in as soon as possible. Pepita is a very good mom and she enjoys playing with other dogs - especially her pups! Pepita is ready to move along into a forever home. We are looking for a home that does not have any children under the age of 12 years for Pepita. We will be asking an increased adoption fee for Pepita - please inquire for more information. (Indoor Home Only!)

A few months ago Funds for Furry Friends took in some dogs from a puppy mill, and one of the females brought a few extra surprises along. Pepita gave birth to six beautiful babies and these little beans are now 9 weeks of age and are ready to start leaving the nest. These puppies were born in rescue, and have never known the horrible place their mother came from. These babies have been raised in a multi-pet home, and have had exposure to cats and other dogs from the day their little eyes opened. All of the puppies are friendly, outgoing and well socialized. There isn't a shy one in the bunch! Mom is a little oversized for a Chihuahua and the babies are a range of sizes so it is difficult to say how big they will grow. The pups are single breed Chihuahuas and this litter has quite a wide range of coloring. We do anticipate a number of applications and will be selecting the best possible homes out of the applications that come in. Amigo was the smallest in the litter when he was born but he has grown to the same size as the rest. He's much more of a snuggler than the other pups but is just as playful as his littermates. He is very outgoing and affectionate. Amigo's applicant fell through and he remains available for adoption - please contact us if you are interested in this fellow!

Absolutely no homes with children under the age of 12 years will be considered for these puppies!
We are asking an increased adoption fee for the pups, so please do not contact us if you are looking for a "cheap" Chihuahua.

Misha - Lab X Collie
Fostered in Brandon

Meet the new girl - Misha has just arrived in rescue. This young lady is only 2 years old, and she was surrendered by her owners when they found having two dogs created too much of a "mess" in their yard. (Two dogs means twice the yard clean up!) Misha is a very sweet, friendly girl. She is great with other animals, and has not qualms about hanging with cats or dogs... Misha adores children and is very friendly and well mannered around kids. While this dog is a housepet through and through, her former owners kept her outside in the backyard the majority of the time. As a result, her housebreaking is not very good. Misha is not fond of being alone in the yard, and she will do laps around the yard if left outside for longer periods of time - probably a habit developed from living outside in a fenced yard. Misha still has a few things to figure out, but personality-wise, she is fantastic. She is good with all people, big and small - and she is fine with all other animals. Misha is easy to get along with and she is a very loving girl who really wants to be part of the family. She is roughly 50lbs and she is a easy girl to handle. With a little housebreaking, this young lady will make a great house pet! (Indoor Home Only!)

Rufus - Cocker Spaniel X (Neutered) - ADOPTION PENDING!
Fostered in Brandon

When a dog is this cute - it's hard to stop taking pictures! Rufus is a beautiful 4 year old boy who has recently come back into rescue. Sadly, his former owners had work schedules which left very little time for Rufus. We believe Rufus is a cocker spaniel mix - but he really looks like a tiny 30lb golden retriever! Rufus is a super big snuggle bug and has quickly bonded with the teenaged child in his foster home. We would not recommend Rufus for a home with children under 10 years old, as he has never been exposed to small kids. Rufus is great with other dogs and he is fine with the lazy cat in his foster home, and pays him not attention. Rufus LOVES to walk (he pulls a little) and has a lot of spunk. He is very bright and obedient - he sits and downs on command without hesitation. Rufus could have real potential for agility as he has an athletic build and is very eager to please. Rufus is housebroken and he is fine in a crate - once you get him in. Rufus can be a little resistant to being pushed into things he doesn't want to do. He is fine loose in the house and does not need to be crated. He is a very happy boy who thrives on affection and attention. Rufus is an all around great little dog. He has a wonderful off switch - but he can be quite playful and silly too. (Indoor Home Only!)

Willow - Lab X Border Collie
Fostered in Virden

Willow is a 7-8 month old lab collie mix who has recently come into rescue after a stay at the Brandon City Pound. Willow is a friendly young girl with a friendly and sweet disposition. She seems to like everyone she meets and is quite social. Willow is a young lady who has had some training, as she is clean in her kennel and seems to be housebroken. This young girl is only medium sized (about 45lbs) and will probably not get much bigger. Willow does need some leash work and she is unsure about going through the doggy-door at the kennel. This young pooch seems to be friendly with other dogs, but she does seem quite interested in cats. Willow is a nice young dog that just needs a little guidance. She would probably make a nice family dog, but will need a little training to mold her into the great dog she could be! Willow is new in rescue and we will update her description once she has spent a little more time with us! (Indoor Home Only!)

Aspen - Yellow Lab X Chow
Needs a Foster Home!

Aspen is a beautiful young lady who is a very unique looking mix. While Aspen looks like a young Yellow Lab, her almond shaped eyes and blue tongue are characteristic of the Chow Chow. Aspen is only about 6 months of age, and she still is very much a puppy. She is only medium sized at present, about 40lbs, but she still has some growing to do. She will probably be no more than 50lbs full grown. She seems to have very little training and she will need work on leash and house manners. Aspen is very friendly and affectionate, but she also has a shy and cautious side. She reacts nervously when approached quickly, and especially when approached from behind. However, when she isn't caught off guard she is happy to meet new people and is full of kisses! Aspen is an adorable dog, but she still has some learning to do. She is not housebroken and will need some work on leash. All in all, Aspen is still a puppy who just needs a little time and training. Because she is a little nervous, she would be best placed with older children - and kids do make her a little nervous. This may change with proper exposure and time. This young lady is good with other dogs, we are unsure about cats - but she is young enough she will probably adjust into any home with the right direction. Aspen is new in rescue after a stay at the local city pound - we will update her description a little more once she has gone into the foster program. (Indoor Home Only!)

Farley - Chihuahua X Pug (Neutered)
Fostered in Brandon

Farley is a 2 year old Chihuahua X Pug that has recently come into rescue when his owner decided Farley was not working out in his home. Farley is a little cuddle bug and he is very much a people pleaser. This little fella is only about 12lbs - but if you ask him, he's much bigger than that! Farley is a little guy with a BIG personality. Farley is more than able to keep up with the big dogs in his foster home, and is a small dog that would be well suited to a home with a big companion. This little dude loves to play and has a lot of energy and spunk. Believe it or not, Farley will try to push the big dogs around, and he is fearless around other dogs. Farley is great with the cats in his foster home and pays them little attention. Farley is an extremely loving and affectionate fellow - he just wants ALL the affection for himself. He is a little guy that would do well with a handler that understands letting him be the king of the castle could lead to problems. Farley would be happy with nothing more than a lap to snuggle in and he seems to be fine with older children. He would be best suited to a home with kids over the age of 8 years. Farley is housebroken and well mannered indoors... This little fellow is very cute and affectionate - he just needs an owner that will not let him get away with too much! All in all Farley is a great little guy, he just needs the right home! (Indoor Home Only!)

Isabelle - Shepherd X (Spayed)
Needs a Foster Home!

Isabelle is an absolutely striking shepherd mix who has recently arrived in rescue. She was taken in to the Onanole pound and she was rescued by a loving family. Unfortunately, she is a little too curious about the cats for comfort, and when she was unable to stay with her new owners - they called us! Isabelle is extremely friendly with other dogs. She is a big girl, around 75-80lbs, and she has such a loving temperment. Isabelle seems to like everyone she meets, but we have not had her around children yet. Isabelle would likely be fine with older kids, but we have not tested her with small children. She does need a little work on her house manners, although she is completely housebroken - she does like to peek on the counter and see if anyone has left anything yummy behind. Isabelle is only about 2 years old but she has an amazing off switch. She loves to snuggle, and she will jump up and give hugs when you ask her. Isabelle is very food driven and she will sit for treats and take them gently when asked. Isabelle has just gone into her foster home today and is doing well so far. We will update with more information soon! (Indoor Home Only!)

Conner - Shih Tzu X (Neutered) - ADOPTION PENDING!

Conner came into rescue recently with his "brother" Riddick. This little gaffer is only 2.5 years old, and he is a shih tzu mix. Conner is a short and stocky fellow, and he looks very much like a shih tzu, although he has been clipped. He has a cute little underbite and is a small dog at only about 15-16lbs. Conner was surrendered for chasing the his owner's grandchild and would be best placed in a home with children over 5 years of age. Conner is a sweet and friendly fellow. He is a busy body and is very interested in the world around him. He seems to be fine with other dogs and absolutely ignores cats. This little fellow is going to be neutered shortly, and we are unsure of his level of housebreaking at this time. All in all, he seems to be a very happy little guy - he just needs a home with older children that he can chill with. Updates to come - Conner is still looking for a foster home! (Indoor Home Only!)

Riddick - Bichon Frise X Shih Tzu (Neutered) - ADOPTION PENDING!
Fostered in Brandon

Riddick has recently come into rescue with his "brother" Conner. This little fellow is a 2.5 year old male bichon frise x shih tzu. He is a very petite dog, and is only about 12lbs. This little guy was surrendered to rescue for chasing his owner's grandchild, and Riddick is would be best in a home with older children (no kids under 5 years old.) Riddick is a cute fellow who is very slender and dainty. He is very active but also seems to settle quite quickly. Riddick seems to be fine with other dogs, and completely ignores cats. He is going in for a neuter very shortly and we will learn more about his level of housebreaking when this happens. Riddick is a nice little guy who is looking for a home with older kids where he can hang out and have fun! Once we have Riddick into a foster home, we'll update his description a little more! (Indoor Home Only!)

Pecan - Shepherd X - APPLICATION RECEIVED!
Fostered in Brandon

Pecan is a sweet little 8 week old puppy who has recently come into rescue after a short stay at the city pound. She arrived with two other siblings that managed to find their own homes very quickly - but poor little Pecan was left behind. Pecan is gorgeous - she has a cute raccoon mask and very striking coloring. She is a typical pup with a friendly, gentle attitude. She is young enough to adapt to any new home, and could adjust with other animals and children with ease. Pecan is a little sad about her siblings leaving her and she would really enjoy a home with another dog. Pecan is a typical puppy who will grow to be a very large girl. Pecan is very social and friendly - and she is ready to settle into a place of her own. (Indoor Home Only!)

Laverne & Shirley - Shih Tzu X American Eskimos (Both Spayed) - BOTH ADOPTION PENDING!
fostered in Brandon

Laverne and Shirley are a beautiful pair of 9 month old dogs who have just arrived in rescue. They were given up because of allergies in the home where they lived. Laverne is the dog on the left and she is a very cute little girl and really has the shih tzu look, with her longer coat. Shirley is the dog on the right, and she is shaped just like an American Eskimo, although her coat is not nearly as plush. These two ladies are littermates and they have grown up together. The ideal situation would be a home for the pair together, as these two are quite bonded. Their foster mom says they follow each other around so much, it's like only having one dog in the house! We will give preference to a home that will adopt them together, but may consider splitting them up if a forever home for the pair can not be found. Both dogs are extremely friendly and only about 16-18lbs each. They are great with children and would make lovely family dogs. Both girls are good with cats and friendly with other dogs too! These girls have been well socialized and are loving, fun little dogs. Shirley takes a mothering type role with her sister, cleaning her ears and always checking out what she has gotten into. Shirley would be the "boss" in the pair, but is certainly not an alpha type personality. The girls did attempt to make a get-away under the fence in their foster home and they are small dogs, so they can squeeze under small spaces. These two are supposed to be housebroken, but we will confirm this after a few days in their new foster home. Laverne and Shirley are quite the duo, and they would be wonderful little companions that would fit in easily into any home. (Indoor Home Only!)

Dakota - Alaskan Malamute (Spayed) - APPLICATION RECEIVED!
Fostered in Brandon

Dakota is a mature female Alaskan Malamute looking for a new home. This beautiful gal is 7 years young and Dakota is all personality! While she can be a little dominant with other dogs, she is generally okay with them. Dakota is extremely good with cats, despite her breed - she has grown up around them and is currently in a foster home with a few feline companions she quite enjoys hanging out with. Dakota is a large girl at about 65lbs. Aside from her love of cats, Dakota also adores children of all ages. She is very gentle with children and is simply drawn to them. Dakota is absolutely gorgeous and she is a quiet, calm and laid back girl. This is one easy dog to have around. Dakota is okay off leash, but does need to be watched as she will wander off in search of children. Dakota is good on leash - she will pull if she has slack, but with a shorter leash, she heels well. Dakota is a gentle giant who would love a family of her own - preferably one with a few little ones she can snuggle with. (Indoor Home Only!)

Bullet - Jack Russell Terrier (Neutered)
fostered in Shilo

This little guy did not want to sit still for his pictures - so we will be getting some better ones soon! Bullet has recently come into rescue after staying a week at the City Pound. This little fella is a very small Jack Russell Terrier. Bullet is about 11lbs of solid muscle and he is a very athletic fellow. He would be ideal for a home where he could get some training as a sporting dog, and he is under 12" at the shoulder - and would be a great height dog for someone interested in getting him involved in flyball. Bullet is friendly, sweet and full of kisses. He is great with other dogs and seems fine with cats - although he is a Jack Russell Terrier and might chase them if they run. In his current foster home, he has paid no attention to the cats. Bullet is about 2 years old and he is . We do not have a lot of extra informaiton on this little fellow, but once we get him into a foster home we will update his description. He has a great temperment and is a lovely little dog. Bullet has a speedy and athletic side - but he also has a nice off switch. He would make a wonderful agility or flyball dog for someone interested in a little sports dog! (Indoor Home Only!)

Misty - Husky X Rottweiler (Spayed)
Needs a Foster Home!

Misty is a beautiful husky x rottweiler who has recently come back into rescue. This beautiful girl is approaching the 3 year mark and she is a very big gal, at about 80lbs. Misty is in rescue as the result of her prey drive. She is not good with other dogs, cats or small livestock. Misty has been exposed to cattle in her former home and her former owner has indicated she did try to move the cattle, and has potential to work with large livestock with some training. She was working with the cattle in her former home, and did quite well as long as her handlers ensured she was moving them from behind, and not stopping them infront. She does, however, need to be supervised around small livestock. Misty is extremely good on the farm. She learns boundaries well and sticks close. She was tied out at night in her former home, and would come and get her long line clipped on without any fuss every evening. Misty would be a great outside dog for a grain farm or a large acerage without other dogs. Misty is very sweet with humans, and is even a little shy when she approachs them. She has been obedience trained and walks extremely well on leash - stopping when you stop and watching very carefully. She understands how to sit and down, and reponds very well to her handler. She does alert bark when strangers come into her yard, but is fine with people. Misty has a great sense with farm vehicles, and she keep her distance when they approach. She can get stressed out when people come onto her property if she is tied up and does much better with newcomers when she is loose. This gal has also been trained to pull a sled in the winter and wagons in the summer on the farm - and she does loves to pull! Misty is very driven to work and really showed interest in working with her handler. Misty has been exposed to children of all ages in her past, but would be best suited to a home with older children. All in all Misty is a great people dog, and she bonds quite well with people. She is looking for a very special home that would be well suited to her needs. (Outdoor Home Preferred.)

Furby - Pomeranian (Neutered)
Fostered in Brandon

Furby was adopted from the rescue about 3 years ago and found himself a very loving home. Unfortunately his owner has fallen quite ill, and as a result he has made his way back into rescue looking for a new home. Furby is an 8 year old male pomeranian. Furby is a larger pom at about 14lbs and he is cute as a button. He is very typical of his breed - smart and sometimes sassy. Furby was very nervous the first week in his foster home, but he has settled and is part of the furniture now. Furby is fine with other animals, but is not terribly interested in interacting with them. Furby is okay in a multipet environment, and has been getting along with the other animals in his foster home. However, he really prefers other dogs to be around him and does not want to be jumped on or play - he would prefer a quieter home and would be best suited to a home with older or lower key animals. Furby also finds children a little intimidating and would be best suited to a home with quieter or older children. Furby is housebroken and does extremely well in a crate. He has proven to be a quieter fellow in his foster home, but he was not very quiet with his former owner, so this may change when he settles in? After a few weeks, he has still proven to be a relatively quite fellow. Furby is a nice fellow and he is a very easy dog to have around. This little dude loves to walk, and he would walk as long as you will keep going. Furby does need some leash work, as he is used to walking next to a scooter and was therefore never taught to heel properly and he does pull. Being pulled by a 14lb dog is really not much of an issue though! Furby is a happy fellow and while he does take a little time to adjust - he is a real sweetie once he settles in. This fellow really needs to find his forever home where he can settle in once and for all. (Indoor Home Only!)

Tag - Shepherd X (Neutered)
fostered in Brandon

Tag has recently arrived in rescue after a stay at the Brandon City Pound. This young shepherd is only about 2 years old, and he is around 55lbs. Tag is a playful fellow and he really enjoys playing fetch! This young boy is good with people of all ages, and he seems to be okay with the cats in his foster home. Tag seems to have some training in his background as sit, down and shake-a-paw were already on his list when he arrived. He may have been a fellow that did not get out of the house much in his former life, as Tag seems to have little understanding of leash manners and his recall needs a lot of work! In addition it seems that Tag has not had a lot of exposure to other dogs and he is still learning what that’s all about. He seems very eager and interested in playing the other dogs he is fostered with, but required a little slower introduction in the beginning. Tag would probably do best in a home with a young playful dog, but his foster mom has been taking him to the off leash parks and out visiting – so we will update as things progress and Tag learns more about walking, playing off leash and interacting with other dogs. He is outstanding with people and all around a fun and playful fellow! (Indoor Home Only!)

Cassanova - Duck Tolling Retriever X (Neutered) - ADOPTION PENDING!
fostered in Virden

Cassanova is a very sweet young fellow who recently came into recsue after a stay at the Brandon City Pound. This young guy is only 2 years old and weighs about 45lbs. His vet work lists him as a Duck Tolling Retriever X, and although his coat is lighter and a little shorter than the traditional Duck Tolling Retriever, he sure has the personality. Cassanova is intelligent and outgoing. He is very affectionate and loving with people he meets, and is amazing with children. This fellow gets along really well with other dogs, and is an easy fellow to have around - sometimes you forget he is even in the house! Cassanova came from a home with cats, however he has shown far too much interest in them in foster care. While he does not appear to want to harm them, he is very interested in them. Cassanova has just gone into foster care, so we will update his housemanners when we have more information. He is a very sweet boy and would be a great addition to any family. (Indoor Home Only!)

Darby - Collie X Rottweiler (Neutered)
fostered in Shilo

We thought we were seeing double when Darby came into rescue! This young boy looks almost exactly like Rookie - you would swear they were littermates! Darby came in from the Boissevain area, near where Rookie came from - and for the same reason too! Darby was picked up running at large in the community and was in the vet clinic ready to be euthanized when we were contacted by the vets. Darby is also about 1.5 years of age, and he is a very sweet and submissive dog. He does not seem to have a mean bone in his body, and this fellow only takes a very short time to decide that you could be his new best friend! You may notice in the pictures that Darby has a sore on his face - he recently had some quills removed that had broken off and were deep under his skin. He is taking some antibiotics and this should heel up in no time! Darby is very friendly with other dogs, and while his interest in cats is not dangerous - he is very curious about them. With some correction, he'd probably work okay with a dog savvy cat, but he seems to be very curious and interested in felines. Darby was a little leash shy when he arrived at the clinic, but the ladies at Boissevain Vet Clinic worked the kinks all out because he walks beautifully now! Darby has only just arrived in rescue, so we do not have a ton of information on him yet. He is very sweet, submissive and soft natured. Darby is now waiting for a foster family - or better yet, a forever home! (Indoor Home Only!)

Beta -Manchester Terrier X (Spayed)
Temporarily fostered in Melita

Beta is a very sweet young lady that just came into rescue. She is about 2 years old and she is only 14" tall and she weighs 30lb mark. Beta is a very gentle and affectionate girl who looks like a Manchester Terrier mix (but she is a little bigger than the breed standard.) This young lady is very sweet and she loves all people. Beta loves everyone she meets and wants to make friends with everyone. She does tend to jump up a bit, but Beta is learning to keep four on the floor when kids are around. She is great with kids - Beta loves them to pieces, runs a plays with them any chance she can. This young gal is extremely gentle with children. This little girl has done very well with the cats and dogs in her foster home. She would really LOVE the cats to play with her but she does not chase them, and a simple "no" is enough for her to leave them be. Other dogs are a great source of entertainment and Beta wants to befriend every one she meets! She loves to play, wrestle and chase the other dogs in her foster home. She can be just a little cheeky with her food and toys around new dogs but this means she simply barks to say "hey, I want that back!" Once she gets to know the other dogs, she really is not that worried about her toys. Beta is fully housebroken and has not had any accidents in her foster home. Beta has been crated during the daytime when her foster parents are working and has done quite well. She prefers to sleep at the foot of the bed at night, if she has the opportunity. Beta has quickly become her foster mom's shadow and follows her inside, She is definately a beta dog, wanting to just be part of the family. Beta adores squeeky toys - those ones are her favorite. She gets excited when walking and does pull a little in the beginning, but settles into a stride quite quickly. She likes car rides too, and is content to sit and watch out the window. This little lady would make a great addition to an active family or a home. Beta's foster mom says "She is the perfect mix. She loves to run and play with the dogs outside, but inside she wants nothing more then to cuddle up to you, or lie and chew on a bone." (Indoor Home Only!)

Maddie - Rough Coated Collie X Border Collie (Spayed)
fostered in Virden

Maddie is a 2 year old dog that originally came into rescue when she was picked up stray in Virden. Maddie appeared to be a rough coated collie mixed with a border collie when she arrived in rescue and was very underweight and shy. Maddie was adopted to a home that lavished her with affection, and she has come leaps and bounds form the shy dog that came to us last summer. She has become a little pushy since her adoption - and she has also gained more than a little extra weight. Maddie is great with other dogs, and while she will chase cats - she would never harm them. Maddie is usually great with the livestock, although she feels the need to bark at them from time to time. Maddie is fostered on an acerage and while she is very well mannered indoors and is fully housebroken - she really prefers to be outside (weather permitting, of course!) She is a great altert barker and will let you know when a strange vehicle or person approaches. This young gal also loves the water! Maddie would love a home where she could hang out on a farm or acerage. Maddie likes children but would be best suited to a home with children over the age of 12 years. This gal is a little possessive of her food, and is best given her space when she is eating. Maddie is a smart girl, and she can sit and shake-a-paw. This young lady would love a home with other dogs she can interact with and is constantly running and playing with the other dogs in her foster home. She is very affectionate and loves belly rubs and is an outgoing, playful girl! Maddie does take a little time to adjust to a new environment, but once she settles in - she's simply wonderful! (Indoor or Outdoor Home Acceptable!)

Fletcher - Jack Russell Terrier (Neutered)
fostered in Brandon

Fletcher is a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier who has just come into rescue. He was owner surrendered due to his high energy levels and his need for an enclosed yard where he can run and play. This young fellow has a great temperment. Fletch is very sweet natured and seems to know how to relax in the house - but when he gets outside he wants to play, play, play! Fletcher is great with cats and he is good with other small breed dogs, but tends to get intimidated by larger dogs. He does warm up in time but makes some noise around dogs bigger than he is. Fletcher has the "pudding jack" build, and is long in the body and short in the legs. He loves to "stand" on his hind legs and also sits like a gopher and begs when he thinks you have a treat. This fellow is a neat mix of snuggly and energetic. Fletch likes kids but would be best with children over the age of six, as he might be too much for small children - and they are a little much for him too. This fellow is very good with older children. Fletcher is housebroken and enjoys hanging out on the furniture. He is actually much less energetic than the typical Jack Russell Terrier. This fellow looks bigger in some of the pictures, but he s actually only about 20lbs, so he is a small breed dog. This fellow likes his toys, and is good about sticking to his own things and not taking things that belong to others. Fletcher does choose a favorite in the household, but seems to enjoy his time with the whole family. This fellow is very sweet and is ready for home of his own! (Indoor Home Only!)

Dexter - Sheepdog X (Neutered) - ADOPTION PENDING!
fostered in Brandon

Dexter has just come into rescue after an extended stay at the Brandon City Pound. We are just shocked no one reclaimed this amazing boy! Dex is a young fellow, only about 10 months old and he is one happy fellow! He loves to play but we have learned he has an off switch too. His foster mom said one he settled in, he became a part of the furniture. This young lad has obviously not had any formal training and he is definately in need of some basic training. Dexter is all smiles and could not be described as anything other than joyful. He is very social and seems to enjoy the company of other canines. Dex also shows no interest in cats and has not even blinked in the direction of the cats in his foster home. He did try to play with some of the cats outside at the boarding kennel, but like most dogs he probably just figures outside is a good place for playing! Dexter is an awesome dog who loves everyone he meets. He likes children but may be too rowdy for some toddlers as he would easily knock them over and he does jump up. This fellow has SO MUCH potential, and with a little training and time - he is going to make someone an outstanding pet! Since this fella has not yet been placed in a foster home, we are unsure about his housebreaking. Dexter is about 55-60lbs, and he is a large breed dog. He has a very thick coat and the last two photos are of Dexter after a grooming. This fellow is looking for a place to call his own forever! (Indoor Home Only!)

Shaq - Lhasa Apso X Poodle (Neutered)
fostered in Brandon

Shaq came into rescue due to changing circumstances in his owners lives. This little fella is a mature 6 year old lhasa apso x poodle. Shaq is a happy fellow and he really enjoys people. He is friendly, social and very well mannered. Shaq is completely housebroken and is well mannered indoors. By all outward appearances, Shaq is an all-around amazing little fellow. He is fine with other dogs but he is not very good with cats. Shaq would be best in a home without small children. He is okay with them to a point but then he does get short tempered with them. Shaq is good with his dog food but seems to be possessive of table food, and will get snappy is he thinks someone is going to take his table scraps away. Shaq does need to learn to some basic manners. He is great off leash and he goes into his kennel when he is told to go to bed. He is a great little dog, but he does have some possessive issues with treats and table scraps. This little fella has only just come into rescue, so watch for updates! (Indoor Home Only!)

Cairo - Shepherd X (Spayed)
fostered in Brandon

Cairo was picked up running at large with her buddy Rookie in the Killarney area. Cairo is ALL about lovin' and kisses! This young lady is a stocky girl, close to 55lbs and she is only about 1.5 years old. Cairo is an extremely friendly girl, who shows her love for everyone by jumping up and smothering them with kisses. While Cairo needs to learn some manners, she is extremely social and affectionate. While leashes are old news for Cairo, she does pull like an ox moving a cart - and this does make walking a little bit of a challenge. (Cairo might do really well with a training collar to teach her proper leash manners.) Cairo is completely housebroken and is learning to mind her manners in her foster home. This young girl is all about people and really enjoys human company. While she was fine with her buddy Rookie, she is not really sure about some dogs and would probably be best suited to a more laid back canine friend or an only dog home. She plays very rough with other dogs and tends to be a bit bossy. Cairo needs a home without cats as her interest level in them is high and not really trustworthy. Cairo loves children, but she might be a little too much for younger children as she is a large, strong girl and could easily topple them over. We would prefer a home with children over the age of 8 years for Cairo. This gal is a wonderful dog that would shape up into an amazing family dog with just a little work on her manners and playfulness. Cairo loves to have people around her and is so happy to be part of a family - as a matter of fact, sometimes she hides the car keys to prevent her foster mom from going to work! She is also great about keeping strange animals out of the yard. She is young and just needs a little guidance! As this gal was found running loose, her tendency to roam and would make her unsuitable as a farm dog. (Indoor Home Only!)

Rookie - Collie X Rottweiler (Neutered)
fostered in Rivers

Rookie was picked up with Cairo, running at large in Killarney area. This young fellow is only about 1.5 years old and he is a very sweet fellow. We are not certain what the history was before this young boy arrived in rescue, but he did arrive a very nervous fellow. Rookie has come leaps and bounds since his arrival when he would shutdown completely if a leash was placed on his neck (see the first picture.) Rookie has gained some understanding of the leash and has been doing extremely well with his foster mome. Rookie is a timid fellow, but he warms up with a little kindness and encouragement. Rookie may have been mistreated in his past but he has warmed up to people and realized that many will show him great kindness. Rookie is very good in an enclosed area off leash, and does come when he is called - but he may run if allowed off leash. Rookie has shown no interest in cats, and he is fine with other dogs. He is a little shy about the large dog in his foster home, and he has taken to trying to play with the little guy (who is older and very uninterested!) Rookie is very sweet with other dogs and has a very submissive nature with other animals. Rookie is unsure about being crated and needs a little coaxing to go in, but once he settles he lays down and doesn't make a sound. He is very bright - his foster mom says he rarely needs to be told anything twice! This young lad is very friendly but would probably be best suited to a quieter home with someone willing to work to keep him moving forward. Rookie is young and only a medium sized dog at about 45lbs. With a little time, he will adjust well and should make a lovely pet. As this fellow was found running loose, he will likely roam and would not be suitable as a farm dog. (Indoor Home Only!)

Marley - Pointer X Heeler (Spayed)
fostered in Brandon

Marley is a special young adult who is looking for a new place to call her own. Marley is a 3 year old spayed female pointer x heeler. She was surrendered by a family that worked long hours and really did not have any time to give to Marley. As a result, Marley found ways to expel the extra energy and ultimately this did lead to her arrival in rescue. After being placed in a foster home, we learned that Marley simply needed some exercise and attention. She has turned out to be a really wonderful girl. Marley simply ADORES other dogs and she does well with every dog she meets. She loves to play and romp with other dogs. As a combination of herding and sporting dog, Marley would make an amazing herding, working or sports dog - she just needs a little training! Marley has a natural tendency to herd, and she has been around cattle without any issue - although she has never been properly taught to herd... On walks with her foster dad, she ignores bikes, but a few joggers have caught her attention and Marley tries to "herd them in line"- but is easily called off. This gal could be excellent in agility or flyball as she has incredible speed, drive and an amazing jump height. Marley was escaping the yard in her former home, but has not tried once in foster care. With proper exercise, she is a very well-mannered girl. Marley is fantastic off leash and she listens well. She loves the water and will swim without tire for hours if you'll let her. She loves to fetch and will bring sticks back from the water as long as you'll throw them! Marley is fully housebroken and well mannered indoors. She loves to snuggle in bed or on the couch. Marley is looking for an active home and she does need someone that will give her the exercise she needs. Since Marley has been in her foster home, we've confirmed she is nervous around children and she does need a home with older kids. We'd recommend children 14 and over. Marley is very interested in rodents and cats, and has a prey drive that would be unsafe around these kinds of animals. We do feel that Marley's past issues were largely the result of insufficient activity and a lack of leadership from her former owners. Marley is a very sweet girl and she just needs direction and someone with a time to give her. Marley would be an excellent companion for an active family or a home that will put her to work! (Indoor Home Only!)

Bella - Schipperke X (Spayed) - ADOPTION PENDING!
fostered in Souris

Bella has just been returned to rescue when her owner's living circumstances prevented her from staying. Bella is about 4 years old now, and she weighs about 30-35lbs. Bella is a very sweet natured gal with people, and simply adores humans of all ages! Bella can get a little excited when she meets other dogs, but we have learned it really is just excitement! Bella is actually great with other dogs and even shared her kibble with a beagle that came to spend some time with her. This little girl loves to play, and while she does use her mouth when she plays with other dogs but she is very gentle. Bella is not good with cats, but seems to be just fine with other canines! Bella is fully housebroken and crate trained. Bella is a very friendly little lady. She is sweet natured and very playful. She enjoys greeting people and does jump up a little - not a huge problem as she is a smaller dog, but her foster parents are working on this. Bella does tend to pull on walks - again not a huge issue as she is not a big dog - but it seems to be mostly because she wants to meet and greet everyone! Bella is a great little dog, and has proven to be a wonderful alert barker. She does a great job of keeping the deer off the property! Bella travels well and is great in a vehicle. All in all, Bella is a wonderful dog that is terribly affectionate with people, and she would make a great family pet for any home! (Indoor Home Only!)

Kolohe - Shepherd X Collie (Spayed)
fostered in Carroll

Kolohe is the last in a family of dogs that came into rescue. Kolohe came in with two of her own pups, and her mother also came into rescue - with a litter of her own! All of the others have found their forever homes and this beautiful 2 year old girl is still looking for hers. This young gal was surrendered to the Virden Vet Clinic. Kolohe is very sweet natured and gentle. She is shy and nervous about new situations, but it only takes a short amount of time for her to settle in! Kolohe has had a lot of exposure to people and other animals in her past, and she would be fine with just about everything. This gal is a little on the underweight side, and she is VERY food motivated... Food seems to be a way to make quick friends with Kolohe - and is a great way to get her to move forward when she is nervous about something. Kolohe and her pups did not come from a great situation - and while the pups are still very small and they'll adjust to the "good life" with ease - Kolohe is still adapting to this new life, where food, toys and love are plentiful! This young lady does need a little work on her housebreaking but she is smart and eager to please - so she should learn quickly! We'll update Kolohe's description as she settles in. (Indoor Home Only!)

Sehla - Shepherd X (Spayed)
fostered in Brandon

Sehla is a 1.5 year old female shepherd mix who has recently been returned to rescue. Sehla was born in rescue and was adopted out at about 10 weeks old. She was well socialized in her adoptive home, and has been raised with children, other dogs and cats too! Sehla is very sweet, but she can be a little timid around new people. She warms up very quickly and is a gentle and affectionate girl once she gets to know you. Sehla has lived in the same home since her adoption, but was surrendered back to rescue because she was repeatedly escaping her yard... Sehla was kept in a very well fenced yard, but she was using the dog house in back as a stepping stool to jump the fence. Sehla was found by a family with a couple with young children that played with her and burned off a lot of her energy - and she was also walked very frequently... This seemed to curb the houdini in Sehla. We have found with a good activity level, Sehla has great off leash recall! Sehla LOVES to swim and she also enjoys playing outside and rolling in the snow. This young lady is a wonderful girl and she would adapt easily to a home with children and other pets... However, anyone interested in Sehla MUST be committed to regular exercise program. (Indoor Home Only!)

Sayuri - Shepherd X Husky (Spayed)
Fostered in Brandon

Sayuri is Japanese for "small lilly"and this beautiful girl is quite the flower! Sayuri is a 5 year old female Shepherd X Husky picked up at large by Brandon Animal Control. Sayuri looks very much like a Shepherd, and the only hint of Husky are her outstanding baby blues! Sayuri seems to be fine with older kids but has not been exposed to smaller children. She adores people and is friendly with other dogs. Sayuri is very willing to make friends with other dogs, she can be bossy at times and would therefore be best in a home with a more laid back female dog or a male dog. While she has moments of being pushy, this girl is very good with the male dog in her foster home and they eat side by side, even out of the same bowls without issue. Sayuri has also been to the off leash park with her foster dad, and not only was she great with the other dogs - she actually prefers to be by her person and does not take off or wander. Sayuri is extremely interested in being with people and she is very affectionate. She strives for time with her foster dad, but when she is not getting any - she is content to lay on her bed near his or find her crate and relax. Sayuri is 100% housebroken and she is very well mannered indoors. This mature gal is a smart cookie who is willing and eager to please her people. Sayuri doesn't have the same respect for the felines as she has for humans and dogs and would do best in a home without cats. Sayuri is about 50lbs and she is a nice sturdy build. Sayuri is a great gal with a remarkable attitude! (Indoor Home Only!)

Drake - Springer Spaniel X Border Collie (Neutered)
fostered in Brandon

Drake is a very sweet natured 4 year old Springer Spaniel X Border Collie. Drake came into rescue with great urgency when his owners found he no longer suited their living circumstances. Drake is a beautiful boy at about 45-50lbs. Drake is a nice, fun-loving dog who loves to play. He can chase a ball for hours and his former owners say he loves to swim as well! This fella has now mastered fetch but he reverts to "chase me" for the ball occassionally as he likes that game too. Drake travels well and he just LOVES going for car rides! This fellow knows a few tricks and can sit, lay down and shake a paw. Drake is good with other dogs, but his herding instincts do kick in around cats if they run. He has lived with a rabbit and is harmless, but does need to be reminded that it is not his job to herd everything! Drake loves a good belly rub and is a very affectionate fellow. Drake is good with children that respect dogs. In his former home, he was taunted and teased by a child and while Drake still likes children, he would be best suited to a home where children are respectful of his space. He has a lovely temperment, but came from a home where a child was climbing on him, and poking and prodding at him all the time. We are not insisting on a certain age range but we want to be certain potential adopters are aware of his past and understand he will not tolerate being poked at or pulled around by humans of any age. We have found that Drake will hide under the bed at times and responds poorly if he thinks he is being dragged out - this is likely a result of being tourmented by the child in his former home. He also is good around food but will growl if his face is being touched when he is eating. (Seems understandable to me!) Drake is a very nice and gentle boy. Drake is coming along with his leash work but still pulls at time. Bath time is ...uh, not his favorite - but he has gotten better each time he'd had to go in, and he's getting used to them! This fellow is housebroken and crate trained, but does well loose in the house for short periods of time without being destructive or having accidents. Drake would love a home with an active family. He would be great for someone who is into outdoor activities, such as hiking or jogging. (Indoor Home or Outdoor/Indoor Home Considered.)

Koti - Heinz 57 (Neutered)
Needs a Foster Home!

Koti is a 5 year old neutered male of mixed breed, on the high end of medium-sized at 74lbs who was owner surrendered as the result of a divorce. Koti has a beautiful thick coat and this boy is smart – he can sit, down, shake, sit-up and stand in quick succession for the reward of a biscuit. Koti's foster mom has already taught him to sit and politely wait for his dinner - which he has learned quickly and performs well. This fellow loves to travel in the car and loves walks - he does not pull on leash but has shown very poor off leash recall in his foster home (he does not try to run away, but will not let you catch him). Koti has excellent house manners – he is fully house trained and happy to be kept out of certain areas by use of a stair gate – if you erect a barrier he will not try to pass it. Koti is a friendly dog, however, when he first arrived at his foster home he was sad, preferred his own company and grumbled a little. He has now settled in nicely, is relaxed, affectionate, happy and interacting well with people. However, due to his original grumbles we feel he would be best placed in a home with children over the age of 12 years. All in all Koti is proving to be a great fellow who thrives on affection. If Koti sounds right for you, he is ready for his forever home! (Indoor Home Only!)

Peek-A-Boo - Pekingese (Neutered)
fostered in Brandon
NO CHILDREN, NO EXCEPTIONS

Meet Peek-a-boo, this little fella is a 2 year old Pekingese who came to us from another rescue.  Despite being only 20lbs, Peek-a-boo has given a few of his past handlers a run for their money.  Peek-a-boo is used to getting his own way and over time he began to exhibit force to get the things he felt he was entitled to.  As a result, this young man has some issues with "little dog syndrome."  Peek-a-boo is now living with a pair of malamutes and he has shown he respects the canine pack order. However, Peek-a-boo is not so sure where he ranks people on that scale...   Peek-a-boo has gone into an experienced foster home who is working to establish a proper human-dog pecking order.  Peek a boo has shown some resource guarding behaviors, which we do feel will correct with proper guidance.  With a little time and patience, this little dude should work out these issues.  Peek-a-boo does need an experienced handler and we would not recommend this fellow go to a home with children under 12 years of age.  As you can see in the pictures, this little guy has a lot of love to give, he just needs to be certain where he belongs....  (Suitable for an Indoor Home or Trucker's Companion!)

UPDATE: Peek-a-boo has really opened up while in foster care, and he is becoming much more handlable. While Peek-a-boo enjoys petting and cuddle sessions with his foster dad, and he now gives a warning when he has had enough affection. Peek-a-boo's foster dad has been working with him, and is hand-feeding him in order to build trust and bond with him. This has really done wonders for Peek-a-boo. This little fellow enjoys short walks and his foster dad is working on his off leash recall. While Peek-a-boo does come when called, just not always the first time. While Peek-a-boo has some issues with affection in most situations - these issues seem to disappear in the car! Peek-a-boo loves to go for car rides and he is very cuddly and affectionate in the vehicle. He enjoys long trips and even gives kisses to the driver! Peek-a-boo would be an excellent dog for a long-haul truck driver! He doesn't need long walks and he really is happiest in the vehicle. Peek-a-boo loves long highway hauls and has been on a few trips with his foster dad and done extremely well! Peek-a-boo is also a bit of a watch dog, and would keep an eye on things if his driver needed someone else to watch for strangers approaching the vehicle. Anyone that is on the road a lot would be ideal for this adorable pooch! If you are interested in learning more about Peek-a-boo... Please get in touch!

We'd like to extend a very special thank-you to Peek-a-boo's godmother, Christina Grimaldi who has sponsored his rescue and rehabilitation.

Desmond - Husky X Border Collie (Neutered)
fostered in Brandon

Desmond is a beautiful young dude, who is now about a year and a half. He was rescued following an urgent plea from the Minnedosa vet clinic. When they could not go through with a scheduled euthanasia after this young boy was brought in by Erickson Animal Control, the called us and asked us to take him...  Desmond is nothing short of adorable, he has a very cute cobby face which gives him a teddybear appearance. Desmond has shown he is much more comfortable with female dogs than he is with males, and does feel threatened when males invade his space. We have found he can get very focused when he feels intimidated and he seems to prefer other males give him a 3 foot birth. Desmond is currently fostered with other dogs and would love a companion that likes to play, as he can be very silly and puppish. Although Desmond is fostered in a home with cats, he does have a tendency to chase them and does require supervision and control from his handler around them, or he may accidently play too roughly and harm them. For the same reason, he is not suitable for a home with small animals like rabbits, guniea pigs or gerbils as he tends to play rough an may accidently harm them. Desmond is excellent in the crate and is completely housebroken. He has a cheeky side to him and he really needs a home with someone who has some dog experience and is comfortable handling a dog that does need a dominant handler. Desmond would be best suited to an adult only home, and one with female dogs. In the right environment, this fellow could really thrive. Desmond loves to play and has a very silly, puppish side to him which makes him a lot of fun to be around. Desmond's foster mom is doin
