Arleigh (Australian Shepherd X)
Description Last Updated: December 14th, 2009
Those who ask what difference does it make saving just one have not witnessed the joy of the one who is saved!

Australian Shepherd X - Neutered Male - 6.5 years old (Born 2003)
Height: 17-18" | Weight: 60lbs

Arleigh is a bilingual dog - he knows his commands in English, but was initially trained in French. He can sit, stay and lay down. He does not bark unless someone comes to the door - and he will stop barking on command. Arleigh is great with people and he is great with kids. Arleigh is completely housebroken and can be trusted loose in the house. Arleigh is comfortable in the boarding kennel and in a large open pen - but he does not do well in the crate. Arleigh pulls a fair bit on leash initially, and Arleigh is a strong dog. However, once he gets past the initial excitement, he will settle into a heel and walks beautifully. This fellow is happiest when he has a chance to go out for a walk - and he is very content to hang out in the yard. Arleigh is a wonderful boy. He gets along with other dogs but needs to be separated at feeding time, as he is protective of his food around other animals. Arleigh is fine with humans around his food dish but he does have an issue with other dogs approaching his food dish. Arleigh also needs a home with a fenced yard. He has no desire to leave - Arleigh is a home body and has excellent off leash recall. His former owners had no problems at all living in the city, but recently moved to the country where Arleigh has shown a love for chasing cars. With no separation between their home and the train, Arleigh recently began to try chase the train... This was when his owners decided it was simply not safe for him on the farm. Arleigh is not a dog that would enjoy being tied up or stuck in a pen all the time. He has always been happy as a city dog and is looking for a home where he will have that opportunity again. (Indoor Home Only!)
