HOW TO HELP US!

Hello we often have people asking how they can help us out other then with monetary donations. There are a lot of ways in which people can help us out so we have a page here where they are listed.

VOLUNTEERING

Funds for Furry Friends is always in need of volunteers.  The operations of the rescue are a full time job (outside of regular jobs – you know, the paying ones?)  It has become increasingly difficult for our directors to take animals from the pound or animals we have staying at a boarding kennel in for vet appointments, which must be accomplished during day time hours. We are in desperate need of volunteers with a fairly flexible daytime schedule to assist us with getting dogs and cats to and from the vet clinic for appointments.  This is our biggest need at present, and anyone who can offer assistance would be greatly appreciated.  If you are interested in helping, please call 573-8333 or email fosterhomes@fundsfurfriends.com.

FOSTER HOMES

We simply can never have too many of these, and as we often bite off more than we can chew – taking animals from the pound because we want to save them, and having no foster home to place them in.  We are forever boarding animals at the local kennels, waiting for foster homes to open up so we can save a couple more…  It’s a never ending cycle.  We also have a waiting list for dogs to come in on a constant basis, and the surplus of cats at the pound is never ending.  We need foster homes in the worst way.  If you are interested in fostering, we do supply everything you would need – the crate, food, blankets, toys, and all vetting is the responsibility of the rescue. Your role would be to give the dog exercise, basic house manner training and affection.  When vet appointments are booked by the rescue, we would ask that you bring the dog to them – and if an interested adopter contacted us wanting to see the dog, we may give them your number so they can view the dog.  All adoptions take place through the rescue directors, so you would never be asked to handle adoptions.  If you are interested in fostering or have questions about it, please contact 573-8333 or email fosterhomes@fundsfurfriends.com.

DONATIONS

The rescue supplies all items used by our foster homes for the dogs in our care, and with the numbers we are dealing with they disappear quickly.  We also fund all vetting expenses, which in some cases are more extensive.
THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE ALL THINGS THAT CAN BE DONATED TO OUR ORGANIZATION AND THAT WE NEED ON AN ONGOING BASIS:

Many of our volunteers pick-up these items at yard sales, dollar stores and second-hand pet traders.  Items like collars, leashes, and pet toys, are inexpensive items which can be accumulated from these kind of places.  Some of the larger items, like kennels/crates, cat trees/condos, dog beds and scratching posts are items we have managed to collect from garage sales, flea markets and second-hand pet traders for decent prices.

Things that run out, like food are constantly needed…  And if you ask the dogs, bones, biscuits and chews are right up there at the top of the priority list – they’d really tell you, there’s never enough.  Donations of perishable items are on-going and we have never been in a position where we had more food or treat items than we could use!

Funds for Furry Friends is now signed up on CanadaHelps.org, this is an organization set-up to allow you to give when you want, in the amount you wish, in the manner that suits you best. Canada Helps allows donors can give monthly, as well as have the ability to purchase charitable gift cards for family and friends.

TELL PEOPLE ABOUT US!

You can tell them on a train, you can tell them on a plane.  You can tell them in the park, you can tell them in the dark.  You can tell them on a boat, you can tell them with a goat.  You can tell them here or there – you  can tell them everywhere!

The more people can get our name out there – the more animals we can find homes for.  The more homes we find for our cats and dogs, the more foster homes we can open up…  And the more foster homes we can open up, the more animals we can save…  It’s an on-going cycle and the way we can make this happen is by simply getting our name out there, and letting people know we exist.  With just a few more people helping spread the word about Funds for Furry Friends animal rescue, we can do something truly amazing…

We can find places that animals, who were once facing death, can call home.

Sara Mantell grew pumpkins in her garden this year and has been selling them to raise money and wants to also donate her fair prize money that she won for her arts and crafts in the summer. Sara Mantell has donated $50 to Funds for Furry Friends. THANK YOU SARA!

Kris Brewer and Val Taylor, on behalf of the Brandon Zellers Staff Club, presented Funds for Furry Friends with $80 in cash donations and many, many, MANY bags of donated bags of dog food, dog treats, and dog chew toys (October 5, 2007).  The Brandon Zellers Staff Club regularly donate to charitable organizations in need of assistance.  Funds for Furry Friends, and all of the dogs, are grateful for the kindness and consideration of Brandon Zellers' Staff.

On July 11, 2007, Kaitlyn Crooks (adoptive home for "Lucy") turned 11 years old. She asked her friends not to bring gifts for her but to bring things to "help an animal in need".  Kaitlyn raised $80.25 in cash, 2 bags of dog and cat food, and some chew toys for the animals.  Kaitlyn knew that her little Lucy came from Funds for Furry Friends and she wanted to help as much as she could.
It was pointed out by Kaitlyn's mother, Ivale, that children who learn philanthropy early in life grow to become very giving and productive adults.  She said that if every child gave up the avails of just one birthday in his/her life to give to a favourite cause, this world would be that much more amazing.
Thanks to Kaitlyn Crooks for sharing her special day with Funds for Furry Friends.

We would like to send out a special thank you to a couple of young friends of ours who helped raise money for some sick puppies:

Rikki Bergen turned 10 years old on November 21, 2006 and donated $50 when her birthday party-attendees gave money instead of gifts.  The $50 will be used towards "the puppies' medication".

Erik Crooks turned 7 years old on November 8, 2006. His party-attendees were given a note in their birthday invitations and it stated, "In lieu of gifts, Erik requests a monetary donation to a  charity close to our hearts, Funds for Furry Friends. There are so many animals out there that need to be rescued like our Lucy needed. Once rescued, your donation will go to their veterinary costs such as immunizations, neutering/spaying, or even very serious operations. Your donation is greatly appreciated. We and the animals thank you in advance." Erik Crooks raised $135.

These wonderful young ladies hosted a party and donated the money they raised from an admission fee to our organization. Thank you ladies!!

We would like to thank Kaitlyn Crooks for her generous donation to Funds for Furry Friends. This year for her birthday party she had 5 friends, for a sleepover and requested that in lieu of gifts that they make a monetary donation to Funds Fur Friends.  They raised $101. The party was so much fun that even Lucy their dog joined them.  Kaitlyn turned 10 years old on July 11th, 2006, and isn't it amazing that at such a young age she has such a big heart for animals.  If she could save them all, she would.

Funds for Furry Friends has another young guardian angel looking out for the dogs and cats in need. Young Erik Crooks turned 6 years old on Nov 8th, 2005 and instead of presents he asked his friends to bring donations for Funds for Furry Friends!!! It always amazes us how considerate young children are thinking of the animals on their birthdays and at other times. Thank you Erik Crooks your kind thought is helping save lives.

Just one example of how a young girl is helping make a difference for animals needing second chances!

We would like to take this time to thank Kayla Reid and all her friends!! Kayla recently had her 9th birthday party and asked all her friends to bring donations for Funds for Furry Friends instead of gifts. Kayla is a Grade 3 student at Christian Heritage School. She had her party at the Canad Inn and together she and her friends raised $105 for the animals in our rescue. Kayla is obviously an animal lover and deserves our admiration for being so willing to think of our animals on her birthday.
